Harriman et al., Te hni al Report NA99/19) on adaptive nite element methods for dis ele trodes to the ase of rea tion me hanisms to the in reasingly popular hannel mi roband ele trode on guration. We use the standard Galerkin nite element method for the di usion-dominated (lowow) ase, and the streamline di usion nite element method for the onve tion-dominated (highow) ase. We rst onsider the simple E rea tion me hanism ( onve tion-di usion equation) and we demonstrate ex ellent agreement with previous approximate analyti al results a ross the range of parameters of interest, on omparatively oarse meshes. We then onsider ECE and EC2E rea tion me hanisms (linear and nonlinear systems of rea tiononve tion-di usion equations, respe tively); again we are able to demonstrate ex ellent agreement with previous results.
